Flores GMT Guatemala

Flores is the capital of the Petén Department, the northernmost and landlocked department of Guatemala. The population is 13,700 (as of 2003). Flores is also the administrative center of the municipality of Flores, which has a population of 22,600. The city is home to the Catedral Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios y San Pablo Itzá, which is the cathedral episcopal seat of the Apostolic Vicariate of El Petén (previously a territorial prelature). The older part of the city is situated on an island in Lake Peten Itza, linked to the mainland by a short causeway. On the mainland, you'll find the suburb of Santa Elena and, to the west, the adjoining municipality of San Benito.
