Oranjestad Aruba

Oranjestad is the capital and largest city of Aruba, a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is located on the southern coast near the western end of the island. In the local language, Papiamento, Oranjestad is often referred to as "Playa." The city features Dutch Colonial architecture, and many historic buildings and houses in the town center have been restored and painted in bright colors, such as the lime-colored Civil Registry on Wilhelminastraat. Modern developments include the Royal Plaza outdoor shopping mall and several newer buildings along Main Street and the Main Square. Key attractions include Fort Zoutman, the tax-free harbor, and the nearby Willem III Tower. Aruba also boasts around eight museums across the island.
